Fast-food chains like Chipotle, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut have been announcing shifts to GMO-free and cleaner ingredients, but the drive-thru restaurant concept is about to get a veg makeover. Amy’s Kitchen, the organic, vegetarian food company founded in 1987, is debuting its first branded restaurant this month in Rohnert Park, California (just north of San Francisco). The diner-themed eatery will be called Amy’s Drive Thru and will feature veggie burgers, pizza, burritos, and milkshakes—and all menu items will be available in both vegan and gluten-free versions. Everything will be made from scratch, and prices will be competitive with other fast-food restaurants (burgers will be $2.99). In an interview, co-founder Andy Berliner said he is hopeful for national expansion should this inaugural location be successful.
