Laura Brown, the editor-in-chief of iconic fashion magazine InStyle, made a public commitment never to allow animal fur to be featured in the publication. “I want to be clear that InStyle does not photograph fur nor do we accept fur advertising,” Brown said at a recent panel discussion sponsored by The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). “How thrilling that the fashion industry is beginning to embrace fur-free alternatives. Here’s to the dear chinchilla living a long and lovely life.” Brown’s statement is consistent with current trends among the fashion industries largest brands and designers—including Gucci, Donatella Versace, and Michael Kors—who have committed to eliminating fur in their collections.
