Patricia Bragg’s Morning Smoothie

Start your morning off right with this nutrient- and produce-packed sipper.

Each morning, health-food pioneer Patricia Bragg kicks off her day with this nutrient-packed smoothie. Experiment with seasonal organic fruit such as peaches, strawberries, apricots, kiwi, persimmons, or pears to replace the banana.

Serves 1 to 2

What You Need:

2 teaspoons spirulina or green powder, barley, etc.
1/3 teaspoon Bragg Nutritional Yeast Flakes
1 tablespoon flax oil or ground flax seeds
1/2 teaspoon lecithin granules
1 to 2 tablespoons blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1 to 2 teaspoons dried goji berries (optional)
1 teaspoon vitamin C powder
1/2 teaspoon rice bran (optional)
1 to 2 ripe bananas
1 teaspoon soy protein powder
1 teaspoon almond butter (optional)
2 dates or prunes, pitted
1/3 cup soy yogurt or tofu
1 ice cube (optional)
1-1/2 cups distilled water, freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh carrot juice, fresh greens juice, or unsweetened pineapple juice

What You Do:

In a blender, blend all ingredients until smooth.

Chef's Tip: Another optional add-in is apricots. Soak four sundried, unsulphured apricots overnight in purified/distilled water or unsweetened pineapple juice. Keep refrigerated. In summer, you can add fresh, organic fruit: peaches, papaya, blueberries, strawberries, all berries, apricots, etc. instead of bananas. In winter, add apples, kiwi, oranges, persimmons, pears, etc. If necessary, try sugar-free, frozen organic fruits.
