In a round-up featuring the best chocolate desserts in New York City, Serious Eats praised the vegan brownie at Peacefood Café. The list included desserts from Top Chef Judge Tom Cochilio’s Craft, French pastry legend Francois Payard’s eponymous patisserie chain, local favorite French bakery Mille-feuille, and other famed bakeries and cafés from New York City’s rich culinary scene. Peacefood Café’s vegan brownie made the list because, according to writer Niko Triantafillou, it was “everything I want in a classic brownie: a rich and earthy chocolate flavor, a fudgy crumb that’s not too dense or too cake-like, and a subtle vanilla aroma.” After noting that the brownie did not contain a trace of animal products, Triantafillou stated that “not only is there no sacrifice in flavor or texture, you’ll even find that wonderful thin, crackly crust where the brownie kissed the pan.” With vegan pumpkin pie featured on the Rachael Ray Show, vegan cupcakes recommended in Oprah Winfrey’s O Magazine, and vegan meringue showcased in Cook’s Illustrated, there is no doubt that vegan desserts are more popular than ever.
