Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler is teaming with The Humane Society of the United States to fight against cat declawing in New York state. In a statement, Butler refers to himself as a “crazy cat person” who along with his wife has rescued many cats and would have “never dreamed of putting them through an elective, convenience surgery such as declawing.” Butler’s spotlighting of the issue comes in response to a new bill in New York that would outlaw the cruel practice, making it the first state in the US to do so. “Can you imagine having your fingers chopped off at the last bone?” Butler said. “That is what the equivalent is for cats who are declawed. It is dreadfully inhumane! A surge of veterinarians throughout New York support legislation to put declawing in the trash bin of history. I urge lawmakers to remain steadfast … and support the bill to ban the declawing of cats.”
