Dustin Leonard, former participant in Australian competition Bachelor of the Year, has launched a new line of vegan condoms and plant-based personal lubricant. Leonard founded the company Hero in 2013 to help provide solutions for global problems, particularly the HIV epidemic in Africa. The new condoms—available in natural and ultrathin—do not contain animal products nor have they been tested on animals. “Some condoms and lubricants include an animal protein which is also used to thicken and congeal some foods and other products,” Leonard explained. The lubricant is PH-balanced, paraben- and petrochemical-free and made with only plant-based ingredients, including aloe vera. For every purchase, Leonard will donate a box of condoms to clinics in Botswana to continue his efforts in fighting the prevalence of HIV. Other companies in this arena include Good Clean Love—a vegan lubricant company that was recently praised by Forbes for its work toward eliminating animal testing within the sexual health industry.
