BuzzFeed Director of Pop Culture Whitney Jefferson posted a quiz earlier this month entitled “Vegans, Do You Do These Things?” in an effort to compare her own habits to others. More than 50,000 quiz-takers indicated that they have been vegan for less than two years, and 27,800 responders chose to go vegan for all three given options: animals, health, and environment. A majority of responders chose tofu as their favorite protein, almond as their preferred plant-based milk, Oreo cookies as the best “accidentally” vegan snack, and “lack of vegan options” as the worst part about going out to eat. An overwhelming 48,600 people (or 90 percent of responders to that question) indicated they would date a non-vegan, while 11,500 people ranked “humans evolved to eat meat” as their least favorite argument against veganism. The quiz uncovered that nearly 21,000 responders cook 75–100 percent of their own meals, and only 19 percent use nutritional yeast “on everything”—which increases to 42 percent if a recipe calls for it.
