Retailer Costco will launch a new vegan option in its in-store food-court locations nationwide by the end of June. The plant-based açaí bowl ($4.99), initially available at select locations in California, Oregon, and Hawaii, is made with Sambazon’s açaí mix (dispensed through Costco’s soft-serve machine) and comes topped with blueberries, strawberries, banana chips, and Kirkland signature granola mix—which features ancient grains, oats, and nuts, and is sweetened with cane sugar. VegNews verified that the ingredients used for the new menu item do not contain animal products. When it comes to packaged items, food brand Don Lee Farms recently reported that its Organic Plant-Based Burger sold 1 million units in the 60 days after it launched at Costco in February.
