People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is holding its annual Sexiest Vegan Over 50 contest, which names two winners (one man, one woman) in the United States every year. The announcement emphasizes that attractiveness “… (doesn’t) mean just waistlines and BMIs. Compassion, enthusiasm, dedication, optimism, and smarts—all those sexy virtues that make a vegan a vegan—are attractive, too.” PETA chooses 10 finalists, and the public votes for the winners, who enjoy prizes such as a gift basket of PETA paraphernalia, a photo shoot in Los Angeles, and “sexiest vegan over 50” bragging rights for a year. The entry deadline is August 15, and winners will be announced on September 19.
