Vegetarian "Fish" Sauce

Known as “nam pla” in Thailand, fish sauce is a popular Thai seasoning used in most dishes. Here is a fish-free version you can make at home.

Makes about 1 cup

What You Need:

  • 3/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup water

What You Do:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small jar with a tight-fitting lid. Shake until well blended. Keep refrigerated for up to three weeks.
