Lab Chimps Retire to Chimp Haven Sanctuary

The animal-welfare organization applauds New Iberia Research Center for sending chimps to a humane sanctuary.

The Humane Society of the United States is recognizing National Institutes of Health for transporting federally owned laboratory chimpanzees from New Iberia Research Center to Chimp Haven sanctuary in Keithville, LA. The move from the center to sanctuary will take place in the next 12 to 15 months, and HSUS is donating $500,000 to assist in the move and construct more space. However, in order to create more space for more chimpanzees, Chimp Haven needs roughly $2.3 million to cover all costs. Other donations are currently being accepted online.
