Animal-Rescue Videos Helped Chastain While Filming

The vegan actress said in an interview that watching videos of animal rescues helped get her through filming torture scenes in Zero Dark Thirty.

Longtime vegan Jessica Chastain recently revealed that watching animal-rescue videos helped her get through the torture scenes of her latest film Zero Dark Thirty, in which she plays a workaholic CIA analyst working to uncover the location of notorious al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. In an interview with Long Beach, CA’s Press-Telegram, the actress admitted she and director Kathryn Bigelow found the rescue videos helped ease the seriousness of the subject matter. “Yeah, very difficult … I hated shooting that stuff … During the week that we were filming the interrogations, we sent each other videos of animals being rescued. It was so emotional for me because I rescue dogs and so does she,” said Chastain, who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her work in the film.
