Article Advises Farms On How to Avoid Activists

Agribusiness publication Farm Futures aims to stop undercover investigations by helping farms catch activists during the hiring process.

One of the biggest thorns in the side of the factory farming industry are undercover investigations that reveal the abhorrent living conditions and animal cruelty. Instead of improving their treatment of animals, agribusiness attempts to stop the investigations from happening in the first place. While their main method of attack has been legislation that would make filming farms illegal, they are also instituting more stringent hiring practices to catch activists before they can get on the killing floor. A recent piece by Farm Futures outlines these tactics; it advises companies to keep a watchful eye on a potential employee’s job history and references, noting that in the past, undercover investigators have lied about this information. Farm Futures also suggests that farms look out for suspicious behavior like a worker consistently volunteering for “unsavory jobs.”
