Danish Cruise Ship Serves Passengers Whale Blubber

Passengers aboard the cruise ship, Norrona, were unknowingly served whale blubber during a recent voyage between the Danish seaside town of Hirtshals and the Faroe Islands capital, Tórshavn. According to Andreas Morlok, CEO of the whale benefit group ProWal, the European Union regards the blubber as “hazardous material.” Whale products have been known to contain polychlorinated biphenyls and methyl-mercury. These chemicals are linked to central nervous system disorders and stunted learning abilities in residents of the Faroe Islands. The sale or marketing of whale meat is illegal in the EU, and animal welfare groups are currently pressing Danish and European authorities to take legal action.
