Award-winning journalist and self-proclaimed animal-lover Jane Velez-Mitchell recently did a verbal exposé on Iowa Representative Steve King’s amendment to the national Farm Bill on her HLN network news show. King’s Protect Interstate Commerce Act would supersede and undermine many of the existing state animal-welfare bills, such as California’s Proposition 2, which mandates that farms give animals enough room in their cages to turn around. Nathan Runkle, executive director of the Mercy For Animals, spoke on Velez-Mitchell’s segment, and he encouraged voters to contact their local elected officials and urge them to abstain from passing the version of the Farm Bill that includes the “King Amendment.”
