Running with the Bulls Comes to the United States

Starting in August, people will risk their lives getting chased by bulls in cities throughout the United States.

Spain’s long-held tradition of running with the bulls is making its way to the United States later this month. On August 24, more than 5,000 people will be chased by bulls through a quarter-mile course in Richmond, VA. Activists have voiced their disapproval, noting that it unnecessarily risks the lives of the animals and the people running. “These events are a shameful example of cruelty for the sake of nothing more than entertainment and profit,” says Ann Chynoweth of the Humane Society of the United States. "These companies put the health and safety of both humans and animals at risk, without the required federal oversight.” More bull-run dates are scheduled in Atlanta, Houston, and Chicago throughout 2013 and 2014
