Hundreds of Dogs Seized in Multi-State Raid

A three-year investigation has lead to the rescue of hundreds of dogs who were tied up, wounded, and deprived of food and shelter.

Animal-welfare groups the ASPCA and the Humane Society of the United States recently helped to conduct one of the most expansive dogfighting raids in the US. What started as an investigation by a local police department grew to a multi-state, three-year probe, culminating in 367 dogs getting seized in Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia. During the sweep, law officials also discovered firearms, drugs, and more than half-a-million dollars in cash. Many of the dogs, who appeared underfed and wounded from fighting, have been relocated to emergency shelters. According to HSUS, 10 suspects have been arrested for their involvement in the dogfighting ring and face up to five years in prison if found guilty.
