Congressional Clash May Lead to Rising Dairy Costs

If members of congress cannot pass this year’s Farm Bill, the price of milk may double.

The ongoing upheaval in congress may delay the passing of the newest rendition of the Farm Bill, a piece of legislation that is redrafted every five years that allocates nearly half-a-trillion dollars in tax money to food assistance programs and farm subsidies. If politicians do not manage to approve the bill by January 1, then the retail price of dairy products could double, reports Mercy for Animals. This potential increase in food costs reveals the vast influence that industrial agriculture lobbyists have in the Capitol and their ability to sway the federal government to use taxpayer money to fund animal production, which uses inhumane practices to produce food at costs that are greater than their retail value.
