Vegan Company Turns Down Google Buy-Out Offer

The $300 million offer didn't impress plant-based meat-and-cheese start-up, Impossible Foods.

Impossible Foods, a startup founded by Stanford University professor Patrick Brown, turned down an offer to be aquired by Google that reportedly reached $300 million. Makers of plant-based meat and cheese products that imitate the taste and texture of animal foods, the company is hardly hurting for funds: angel investors currently include Bill Gates and Google executive Tony Fadell. In 2015, Impossible Foods was listed on CNBC’s Disruptor 50 List, which features private companies “whose innovations are revolutionizing the business landscape” and “have the potential to become billion-dollar businesses.” Other companies on that list include recognizable names such as SpaceX, Uber, Snapchat, and fellow vegan company, Hampton Creek.
