Animal-rights activists have helped stop a London fox cull after more than 7,000 people signed an online petition to oppose the program. The council of the east London borough Hackney planned to “humanely trap” and “destroy” the animals in what would have been the first urban fox cull in 30 years, but after just one day the online petition forced council members to reconsider the cruel practice. Though an official said the campaign had only been postponed, all traps set throughout Hackney have been removed, while no plans to address the council’s claims of “the risk to the deer” have been publicized.
