New York City’s Superiority Burger has been nominated for the prized James Beard Award in the category of “Best New Restaurant.” Superiority Burger—an “all vegetarian and a lot accidentally vegan” restaurant which opened last June in the East Village—is headed by prior James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Brooks Headley and features an eclectic menu that often changes during service as chefs are inspired to make new dishes. Last October, GQ magazine named the restaurant’s veggie burger—with a nut-based patty, slow-roasted tomatoes, and dill pickle—as the best in the world despite its intentional lack of meat. Additionally, co-owners Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby of Philadelphia’s vegan restaurant Vedge were nominated for “Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic” and “Best Pastry Chef,” respectively. Formed in 1990, The James Beard Foundation Awards recognize exceptional culinarians and restaurants in various categories every year.
