All-vegan doughnut shop Doe will open in Portland, OR this May. Founders Crystal Wegener and Carly Sitner have over 15 years of combined baking experience and dreamt up Doe upon realizing that while Portland does have vegan doughnut options—including popular Voodoo Doughnut—the city did not have a dedicated vegan shop such as those in Seattle and New York City. “We are super excited to show Portland what they have been missing all these years,” Sitner tells VegNews. According to Sitner, who has been vegan for 17 years, Doe’s mission is to “satisfy every human without hurting any animal in the process,” and the shop will offer indulgent doughnuts that promise to do just that. Doe’s signature creation (a nod to the founders’ obsession with chocolate) is The Golden Child—a chocolate raised doughnut glazed in smooth ganache and topped with fresh chocolate shavings, chocolate chips, homemade brownies and edible gold pearls. Another option will be the Doe!, a raised doughnut dipped in homemade strawberry milk and topped with sprinkles. The shop will offer a set menu of flavors with daily specials and seasonal offers that will change bi-monthly. Prior to opening, Doe will be taking catering orders and hosting a private opening party to thank their Kickstarter supporters—which helped them raise more than $7,000 to make the shop possible
