Budgeting Tool Tackles Myth that Veganism is Pricey

New online resource Plant-Based on a Budget Meal Plan shows users how to eat vegan on $25 per week.

Online resource Plant-Based on a Budget Meal Plan launched this month to help dispel the myth that going vegan is expensive. The project is a collaboration between World of Vegan creator Michelle Cehn and Plant-Based on a Budget blog founder Toni Okamoto. The week-long plan (which costs $5) lays out a comprehensive plan—that includes shopping lists and tips, vegan recipes, and links to other vegan resources—to help users spend only $25 per week on groceries. Cehn and Okamoto designed the plan to show that a vegan diet is affordable when it revolves around whole foods. “A common misconception is that it is more expensive to eat healthy and that veganism is only for privileged people,” Okamoto tells VegNews. “These meal plans show otherwise. We focused on foods that were familiar and that could be purchased from conventional grocery stores at low prices.” Cehn and Okamoto say that their initial launch was successful, and are currently working on creating subsequent plans in the coming months.
