An all vegetarian version of chain restaurant Pret A Manger will pop up in New York City on April 22. The temporary Veggie Pret will offer the first 200 customers a taste of their vegetarian menu which, according to media outlet Mic, will include a salad or sandwich, a side, and a drink. The company is testing its vegan-friendly recipes—including a vegan miso sweet potato banh mi and a South African-inspired vegan chakalaka wrap—in anticipation of the launch of its 20-item vegetarian menu at 76 US-based Pret A Manger locations by the end of April. Pret A Manger CEO Clive Schlee announced the launch of a second location of meatless Veggie Pret in the Shoreditch neighborhood of London last week after a successful Veggie Pret pop-up concept in Soho (also in London) pulled in 300 percent more in sales than the company expected. The permanence of a US-based Veggie Pret—and vegetarian menu items that will be featured at traditional current locations—depends on customer feedback. The company encourages customers to respond with “love it or leave it” via social media campaign #NotJustForVeggies.
