This week, ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s announced that all of its flavors—including its seven-flavor, almond-milk -based line—can be ordered for delivery anywhere in the United States. The ice cream comes frozen and packaged in an individual “koozy” to preserve freshness, and can be ordered directly from the company’s website. Ben & Jerry’s first introduced its vegan ice cream line with four flavors—Chunky Monkey, Coffee Caramel Fudge, P.B. & Cookies, and Chocolate Fudge Brownie—in 2016, and other brands quickly followed. In February, Breyers introduced its own dairy-free flavors (Vanilla Peanut Butter and Oreo Cookies & Cream), and this month, Häagen-Dazs got into the cruelty-free game with four vegan flavors, including Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge, Coconut Caramel, Chocolate Salted Fudge Truffle, and Mocha Chocolate Cookie. Currently, Ben & Jerry’s offers seven vegan flavors—the initial four, plus veganized Cherry Garcia, Coconut Seven Layer Bar, and Caramel Almond Brittle. According to a recent report compiled by market research firm Mintel, vegan ice cream sales in 2016 made up four percent of 13 billion liters (27 billion pints)—that’s one billion pints of cruelty-free ice cream!
