On July 19, Chicago-based chain Epic Burger will add the plant-based Beyond Burger patty to the menu of all eight of its locations. Epic’s fully customizable burger will be served with lettuce, tomato, and onions (which vegan customers can enjoy on either a white or wheat bun). “Founding a company with the tag line, ‘A More Mindful Burger,’ we are always looking for ways to enlighten people about how food is grown, raised, processed, transported and consumed,” Epic’s CEO David Friedman said. “Epic Burger’s purpose is to create a more mindful world. I believe that by partnering with Beyond Meat, a pioneer in the development of plant-based burgers, we are doing just that. The Beyond Burger truly is the most mindful of burgers.” Once on the menu, the Beyond Burger will replace the restaurant’s current veggie option, which is made with a portobello mushroom. The Beyond Burger has expanded quickly into restaurants around the country after its debut last year in the meat department of a Whole Foods Market in Colorado—and subsequent expansion to 280 Safeway stores. Currently, the Beyond Burger is on the menu at eight locations of chain BurgerFi, vegan chain Veggie Grill, all dining halls at Yale University, and plant-based eatery Next Level Burger. Competing “bleeding” plant-based Impossible Burger is also in the midst of a rapid expansion to both fast casual eateries (such as Texas-based Hopdoddy) and upscale restaurants, including New York’s Momofuku Nishi, California’s La Jardinière, and Nevada’s Andrea’s (located in the Wynn Las Vegas hotel).
