The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) recently launched a campaign to raise awareness about the health risks associated with hot dogs and other processed meats, specifically their link to cancer. An affiliate of PCRM called The Cancer Project aims to educate the public about research that found a 21 percent increase in the risk of colorectal cancer for every 50 grams of processed meat consumed daily. This week, the group revealed a billboard near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that depicts hot dogs in a pack with a warning label similar to cigarettes. According to the National Cancer Institute, about 140,000 cases of colorectal cancer are diagnosed in the United States each year, making it the second leading cause of cancer-related death.
