Prince’s Estate Pledges to Remain Meat-Free

Mitch Maguire, tour operations manager at Prince’s former estate Paisley Park in Minneapolis, MN, which is now open to the public, confirmed in a recent interview that the facility would adhere to a meat-free policy. “Prince was outspoken about animal rights and nutrition and it was not uncommon for these themes to show up in his music as well,” Maguire told The Daily Meal. “Out of respect for Prince and his personal ethos, Paisley Park remains a vegetarian facility for both staff and guests alike.” Prince required fellow artists that visited Paisley Park to adhere to the vegetarian policy, which Maguire said still applies. “If anyone wanted a hamburger for lunch, you had to leave the campus to do it,” Maguire said, “and still do.” During his lifetime, Prince—who was a longtime vegetarian and rumored to be vegan prior to his death in 2016—supported animal-rights organizations such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and addressed animal-rights themes in some of his music, most famously his 1998 song “Animal Kingdom.”
