Waka Flocka Chats with Celeb Pals About Going Vegan

Celebrities Russell Simmons, Mýa, and Waka Flocka Flame gather at Los Angeles eatery Crossroads Kitchen to discuss their reasons for going vegan.

Celebrities Russell Simmons, Mýa, and Waka Flocka Flame recently gathered at Los Angeles-based vegan eatery Crossroads Kitchen to discuss their individual choices for going vegan, a gathering that was captured in a new video produced by animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. “It's the 100 billion animals that I worry about,” Simmons explained. “When you're looking at your plate … you see the process of the throats being slit, the mistreatment of animals, the souls that they do have." Waka announced his choice to go vegan via a 2015 viral video that featured him and fellow musician Raury baking a batch of vegan blueberry muffins. In this new clip, Waka expressed that going vegan has helped him manage his physical and mental health. “I got on stage,” Waka said. “I felt better. My attitude was better. Like, everything about me was better.” Singer Mýa also explained her reasons for going vegan more than three years ago. “I was awakened to things that my parents didn't know," she said. "I was raised on pork … steak, chicken, everything … and everyone in my family pretty much of the older generation has diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, cancer, so now it's a lifelong commitment because now I can't turn back.” All three celebrities have made strides to use their status to promote veganism, and new musicians—most recently Ne-Yo—continue to join the movement.
