Hain Celestial Group announced this week that its European division acquired leading plant-based food and beverage company Mona Group. Mona’s products––dairy-free milks and vegan yogurts, desserts, creamers, and tofu––are sold throughout Europe and the Middle East under company labels such as Joya and Happy. Its plant-based lines make them a natural ally for Hain Celestial, which owns many vegetarian companies such as WestSoy milks, BluePrint juice, Celestial Seasonings tea, Yves meat alternative products, and Alba Botanica cosmetics. “We are excited by the acquisition of Mona, which expands our presence in plant-based products in Europe,” Irwin D. Simon, founder, president, and CEO of Hain Celestial, said. “This acquisition increases the scale of our plant-based operations to over $100 million net sales in Europe.” Irwin also stated that the acquisition will allow the company to expand its markets in eastern Europe. Bart Dobbelaere, CEO of Hain Celestial Europe, reported the vegan market in Europe is growing and spoke of the benefits of plant-based diets: “We believe plant-based foods will become more and more a part of our daily diets. With this acquisition we will be able to further expand our healthy food offerings and capitalize on plant-based eating trends. In addition, plant-based foods and beverages are more sustainable and lighten the footprint we leave behind.”
