Social media platform Pinterest revealed this week that its users pinned 52 percent more vegan recipes year over year—with pins for dairy-free recipes up by 88 percent. Pinterest used these statistics to make it easier for users to find vegan recipes through its visual discovery tool called Lens. Lens now recognizes ingredients and full dishes—such as fresh strawberries or prepared vegan meals—and suggests similar pins. Users can now also search Pinterest based on ingredients already in their home to generate recipe suggestions. Currently, the platform is promoting several vegan recipes such as Vegan Bang Bang Broccoli, Vegan Black Bean Brownie, and Vegan Creamy Pasta on its homepage. Last year, the company predicted that the biggest trend in 2017 would be jackfruit, due to a 420 percent increase in pins related to the meat-replacing plant.
