Israel Announces Ban on Animal-Tested Cosmetics

Following in the steps of the European Union, Israel instated a countrywide ban on any cosmetics or toiletries that are tested on animals. Knesset Member Eitan Cabel, who supports the ban that was first passed in 2010, calls it “a true revolution in animal welfare in Israel.” While the marketing, import, and sale of animal-tested cosmetics, toiletries, and drugs is now illegal in the country, the new law does allow medicines as an exception. Still, Cabel and other animal-rights supporters consider the enactment of the testing ban a triumph. “I hope we’ll create a change in perception that will end animal testing altogether,” says Cabel.
