Sea Shepherd Under Attack
Captain Paul Watson reports that a Japanese security boat is stalking his crew.
December 23, 2009
Less than one month after shipping out on their latest journey, the Sea Shepherd crew are reporting incidence of a Japanese assault at sea. A Japanese security vessel is tailing the crew’s ship, the Steve Irwin, impairing their mission by reporting the Sea Shepherd’s location to whaling fleets. Last week, the Japanese security ship followed the Steve Irwin into French waters without national permission, and when the crew sent a helicopter to film the illegal pursuit, the Japanese ship deployed a long-range acoustical device—a military-class weapon—at the Steve Irwin. The crew is safe, but Captain Paul Watson issued a statement saying the situation is dangerous.
