EU Bans Seal Products from Trade

EU closes commercial seal slaughter sales in landmark legislation.

Today marks victory for Canadian seals and the ProtectSeals campaign, as The European Union (EU) has finally declared an official ban on trading products derived from the annual seal slaughter. The legislation will result in catastrophic economic losses for Canada, with experts estimating that the prohibition will cost the industry an average of $5.6 million each year, well over 90 percent of its usual annual revenue. With 60,000 seals killed so far this season, sealers are already well below their quota of 280,000. Thanks and congratulations to the myriad animal rights advocates around the world who lobbied, petitioned, and protested against the seal slaughter atrocities!
