Ever wonder why the meat industry has so much sway when it comes to environmental and health issues? According to a recent disclosure report, Tyson Foods Inc., the largest meat producer in the nation, spent more than $637,884 in the second quarter to lobby on issues such as meat labeling and tax credits. The company lobbied Congress, the Departments of Agriculture, Energy, and Defense, Environmental Protection Agency, and the US Trade Representative as well as other agencies. And, surprise, Tyson Foods also lobbied on labor and immigration. Tyson Foods makes us want to morph into a certain Tyson of boxing fame and work to knock out the meat industry.
