In French it means “fat liver”, but to vegetarians it means torture. Foie gras, a perennially controversial dish, is manufactured by extracting the livers of overfed factory-farmed geese. Foie gras opponent Roger Moore admitted to a London news outlet this week that he has attempted to remove foie gras from British department store Selfridges & Co., but his written appeals have been met with silence. The news outlet contacted Selfridges, who blamed the lack of response on an administrative error. When prompted for an official response, Selfridges said that they would continue to sell foie gras, because there is a high demand for it from consumers.
