On Tuesday, authorities seized more than 600 chickens from a private residence in San Bernardino County, Calif. Police believe that the 400 roosters and 200 hens seized were being trained for cockfighting and were going to be sold in Mexico, where cockfighting is legal. The owners of the property were not home when police arrived to search the premises. The Humane Society of the United States, who learned of the operation from a cockfighting magazine, tipped off authorities. Cockfighting is illegal in the United States and in most European countries.
