Recently, Nutrition Journal published a study revealing that on average, vegetarians maintain lower instances of depression, anxiety, and other negative mood diseases. Before the study began, scientists predicted that omnivores would be less susceptible to depression due to consuming omega 3 fatty acids found in fish, but vegetarians scored lower on a test for depression and described overall superior mood levels than meat eaters. The study monitored a control group of Seventh-day Adventists, with a ratio of 4:5 vegetarian and omnivore volunteers, respectively. Scientists concluded that omega 3 oils do not positively affect moods, nor does the absence of omega 3 oils negatively impact moods.
