Animal-rights activist Bradley L. Goldberg has donated $1 million to New York University (NYU) to introduce an Animal Studies initiative, which will launch Spring 2011. The new undergraduate program will study the relationship between animals and topics such as the environment, philosophy, art, literature, and ethics. Goldberg, a former portfolio manager and a graduate of NYU, also hopes the program will initiate events and conferences surrounding animal rights. “My hope is that this animal studies initiative will spur others to get more involved in this social-justice movement of giving animals the status they so deserve,” he said. Goldberg also founded the grant-making institution Animal Welfare Trust and the charity Animal Welfare Advocacy.
