Unilever, a multi-national corporation that owns many of the world’s consumer product brands, such as Slim-Fast, Hellman’s, and Bertolli, announced that it will eliminate animal testing on Lipton tea and tea-based products. The company says that the ban is a result of Lipton tea being a leader in “the area of environmental sustainability and the ethical sourcing of tea.” The announcement follows a PETA UK report that stated the company tested Lipton tea on rabbits in order to market the tea as having health benefits, which sparked a massive PETA UK protest.
