Dangerous Sodium Levels
A new report from the CDC says that almost all Americans are consuming too much sodium.
October 24, 2011
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released a new report stating that more than 88 percent of Americans exceed the recommended daily amount of 2,300 milligrams of sodium. Furthermore, the US Department of Agriculture’s nutritional guidelines also say people who meet certain criteria (more than 47 percent of the population), such as those over the age of 51 or those suffering from specific health conditions, should reduce their sodium intake to 1,500 milligrams, in order to reduce the risk of diseases like hypertension, heart disease, and stroke. Out of those people, the CDC reports that almost 99 percent are consuming more sodium than the suggested amount.
