Dutch lawmakers have announced a countrywide police force solely dedicated to animal welfare. The Dutch political party Party for the Animals first proposed the measure, which was inspired by Animal Cops, a television show on Animal Planet that follows the lives of US animal rescue workers. According to Job van der Sande, the spokesperson for the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice, the group of 500 police officers will undergo special training that is currently being developed. The current plan is to have the first 100 officers on duty by the end of the year.
