A study from researchers at the University of Oxford’s Cancer Epidemiology Unit in Oxford, UK, has found a possible link between diet and kidney-stone risk. The study included 50,617 persons; using follow-up studies and regression analysis, researchers found that compared to those eating a “high meat” diet, the incidence rate of kidney stones was 0.71 for moderate meat eaters and 0.52 for fish eaters and vegetarians. In addition, the study found that diets high in fresh fruit, as well as fiber, iron, magnesium, and potassium, were associated with a reduction in kidney stones.
