Last week, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) hosted the Chefs for Seals event in New York City to raise awareness and protest against Canada’s use of seals for fur and food. Fashion photographer and America’s Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker, who documented the seal hunt with his photo exhibit A Sealed Fate?, was on hand to speak out against Canadian seafood. According to The Wall Street Journal, some chefs like NYC-based Colt Taylor, executive chef at One If By Land Two If By Sea, assumed that seal meat was no longer legal to serve in restaurants, although hunting and selling seal continues to be legal throughout Canada.
