New undercover footage shot by Mercy For Animals investigators in October reveals factory workers at Butterball turkey farms in North Carolina viciously abusing birds. In addition to being kicked and stomped, the video reveals birds being dragged by their wings and necks, as well as being tossed around violently, with some suffering from serious untreated injuries and infections including broken bones and open sores. Less than one year ago, a similar MFA investigation at a Butterball facility resulted in five workers being charged with criminal cruelty to animals. A massive turkey producer, Butterball is responsible for 20 percent of the 252 million birds raised and slaughtered each year in the United States, and 30 percent of the 46 million who are killed for Thanksgiving alone. Thanks to MFA’s footage and extensive legal complaint, law enforcement is currently investigating.
