On June 2, Chicago will host its first-ever Veggie Pride Parade, an effort to promote and celebrate the plant-based lifestyle. The event, scheduled to take place at Grant Park, will feature guest speakers, a costume contest, and other veg-friendly festivities designed to unite members of the Midwestern city’s vegan and vegetarian communities, whether they made their dietary choice based on ethical, religious, or health reasons. The parade is modeled after similar events held in cities such as Paris, which launched the first Veggie Pride Parade in 2001, and New York. In the months leading up to Chicago’s first annual parade, organizers of the event have launched a Meetup group in order to facilitate communication throughout the planning process.
