Fast food chain Chick-fil-A has been making headlines in recent weeks for its alleged anti-gay stance. Conservative commentator and former governor Mike Huckabee declared Wednesday, August 1 National Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, encouraging patrons to support the company’s views by purchasing its products. In response local gay-rights and animal-rights activists have organized a same-day protest outside the chain’s Hollywood location. News surrounding the chain continues to build after initial reports of The Jim Henson Company pulling its Muppet toys from Chick-fil-A children’s meal packages citing a disagreement with statements made by the company’s Chief Operating Officer Dan Cathy regarding his belief in “the biblical definition of the family unit.”
