Recently, two agricultural bloggers went vegan for an experiment, and Editor Leah Blunt of recycling resource earth911.com wasn’t far behind, forgoing animal products and writing about it for the website. Blunt reports finding vegan staples such as soy and almond milk at neighborhood groceries, and suggests new vegans start by cooking meals with familiar recipes, substituting in faux meat. During the weeklong trial, Blunt discovered new favorites such as falafel on salad and a vegan version of her homemade chili. Along with conserving water and fossil fuels, Blunt notes going vegan means buying more fresh produce, which, in turn, means less packaging and waste––an instant plant-based living gratification.
