An infographic posted on Mother Nature Network details why the number of centenarians—people who live past 100 years of age—is rising. The study focused particularly on the citizens of Okinawa, Japan, which has the highest concentration of centenarians in the world. The average Okinawans’ diets consists of seven servings of vegetables, a very small amount of meat, and a high consumption of green tea. Older Okinawans typically consume a limited amount of calories, roughly 1,200 per day, compared to 2,673 calories the average American eats. Vegan chef Jason Wrobel, host of The Cooking Channel’s new show How to Live to 100, attributes what foods people consume to their longevity. The show focuses on plant-based dishes featuring nutrient-dense ingredients.
