From the National Buffalo Chicken Wing Festival to Germany’s Oktoberfest, indelible cultural food festivals have experienced an influx in vegan options this year. And soon, New Orleans famous Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival will follow suit. In addition to the brass bands, dance contests, and the traditional fish-filled gumbo, Tremé Creole will also have a vegan gumbo contest, in which each vendor prepares a meat- and dairy-free rendition of the staple Big Easy dish to be judged by a panel of celebrities as well as festival attendees. The winner will receive a $1,000 gift certificate to the Food Network’s online store, while runner-ups will receive prizes from Restaurant Depot and Whole Foods Market. The festival takes place from November 9 to November 10.
